From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

Variations in current reference prices of liquid fuels are being pushed upwards due to the usual volatility in international prices of oil and its derivatives, which this week have fluctuated due to uncertainty caused by the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and producers outside of the group, having informal talks in Algeria during the International Energy Forum; also a surprise decline in US inventories, in light of a record drop in imports into the US Gulf of Mexico, which led to a fall in inventories to the lowest level since records began in 1990, due to the passage of tropical storm Hermine, which last week threatened activities in the Gulf of Mexico before moving to the eastern United States, an event which resulted in a drop of the country's oil production and a drop in imports, causing further increases in fuel prices in the region.

The downward trend of the reference prices for the present fortnight is mainly due to the increase of the gasoline reserves and the oil distillates of the United States of America (USA); according to the last report by the IEA, the gasoline reserves increased by 8.1 million barrels per week, the greatest increase in the last 6 weeks; likewise, the reserves of distilled fuels, such as diesel also increased by 10.6 million barrels per week, being the greatest increase in the last 3 weeks.

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

The reference prices for liquid fuels in El Salvador are being affected by an upward trend due to recent events that revolve around the latest OPEC meeting, where the 14 member countries along with 10 other countries producing oil and derivatives outside of the organization justified and maintained the decision to extend the extraction reduction until March 2018, together with a notice provided by the Energy Information Administration (EIA) on the reduction in inventories held by the United States by approximately more than 8 million barrels surpassing the expectations of analysts and international experts, also gasoline stocks fell by approximately 2.9 million barrels which has caused prices of gasolines to be the most affected by this upward trend. [GRAFICA caption="Clic para interactuar con la gráfica"]
