Fuel Prices in the Region

Costa Rica and Nicaragua have the highest fuel prices of all the countries in the region.

The price survey conducted by the Nicaraguan newspaper La Prensa reveals that Costa Rica has the highest average price, followed by Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador and Guatemala.

The average premium gasoline price per gallon in Central America is $4.51. In Nicaragua, premium gasoline costs on average 29.29 Cordobas ($1.28).

The average price of regular gasoline is $4.29 per gallon in the other countries of the isthmus, or $1.13 per liter. In Nicaragua, a liter of this fuel is around 27.50 Cordobas ($ 1.20).

The Ministry of Finance announced on June 23 new variations on the reference prices for fuel, which will be effective from 24 June to 7 July 2014.

The price of a gallon of regular gas is: $4.97 in Costa Rica, $4.88 in Nicaragua, $4.68 in Honduras, $4.26 in Guatemala and $4.32 in El Salvador.

Prices per gallon of Super gasoline: Costa Rica $5.60, Nicaragua $5.14, Honduras $4.82 , Guatemala $4.58, El Salvador $4.42 , Panama $4.29.

A report has been released detailing average consumer prices for Gasoline and Diesel in Central America, in force in the week from 1 to 7 September 2013, based on official prices and monitoring or surveys carried out by the various DGs of Hydrocarbons or equivalent in the capitals of each Central American country.
