From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy and Trade of El Salvador:

Changes in international prices of refined products (gasoline and diesel) over the last few weeks have influenced prices in Central America, however El Salvador ranks first with the lowest prices in regular and special gasoline, and second with the lowest in diesel prices.

Despite slight increases recorded in international prices of petroleum products (regular gasoline, diesel and higher) and WTI this week, prices remain stable; even though the Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported that commercial oil inventories in the United States (US) declined unexpectedly. This combined, the Fed left interest rates steady in a tight decision.

Average prices of gasoline and diesel in Central America:

Country Diesel - Regular - Special
El Salvador 2,46- 2,67 - 2,87
Guatemala 2,29- 2,72 - 2,92
Honduras 2,89 - 3,31 - 3,59
Nicaragua 2,88 - 3,26- 3,43
Costa Rica 3,16 - 4,23 - 4,45
Panama 2,24 - 2,49 - 2,69 (data taken from Latinol.com)

From a statement issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador:

International markets have focussed their attention on the weakness of the dollar against the euro and other currencies, an effect of the recent report from the Federal Reserve (Fed), with rates near to zero and negative for the dollar. In this way, what is negative for the dollar is positive for oil prices and its derivatives, as oil exchanges, traded in US currency, become less expensive and more attractive to investors. As a result, some price shocks (including ups and downs) are observed.
