Frozen Shrimp: Sales Increase by 17%

In the first nine months of last year, Central American countries exported frozen shrimp and prawns for $321 million, 17% more than in the same period in 2017.

Regional Sales Upward
Between the first nine months of 2017 and the same period of 2018, the exported volume of frozen shrimp and prawns registered a 25% increase, rising from 41 thousand tons to 51 thousand tons.

For the periods concerned, the value exported also increased, in this case the increase was 17% from $275 million in 2017 to $321 million in 2018.

Exports by country
From January to September 2018, the main exporter of frozen shrimp and prawns in Central America was Honduras with $167 million, followed by Nicaragua with $72 million, Panama with $40 million, Guatemala with $34 million, Costa Rica with $8 million and El Salvador with $0.2 million.

Destination of exports
In the first three quarters of 2018, 24% of the value exported from Central America went to the U.S., 17% Taiwan, 13% Spain, 9% United Kingdom and 7% Mexico.

Price of exports
Between January 2012 and September 2018, the average price per kilo of frozen shrimp and shrimp exports by countries in the region ranged from $9.17 to $4.74.

Nicaragua: Sales Figures for Frozen Shrimp

August 2018

In the first quarter of the year, companies in the country exported $32 million worth of frozen shrimp and langoustine, registering a 64% increase with respect to exports in the same period in 2017.

In the first quarter of the year, Central American countries exported $90 million worth of frozen shrimp and langoustine, which is 76% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly due to sales to the US and Taiwan.
