Frozen Shrimp: Numbers Up to March 2018

In the first quarter of the year, Central American countries exported $90 million worth of frozen shrimp and langoustine, which is 76% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly due to sales to the US and Taiwan.

Variation of regional exports 
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the export volume of frozen shrimp and langoustine recorded an increase of 72%, rising from 8,441 tons to 14,512 tons. 

For the periods in question, the export value also increased, in this case the increase was 76%, going from $51 million in 2017 to $90 million in 2018. 

Exports by country 
In the first three months of 2018, the main exporter of frozen shrimp and langoustine in Central America was still Honduras, with $37 million, followed by Nicaragua, with $32 million, Guatemala, with $11 million, Panama with $9 million, Costa Rica, with $1.4 million and El Salvador with $0.1 million. 

Destination of exports 
From January to March 2018, 27% of the export value from Central America went to the USA, 14% to Spain, 13% to Taiwan, 10% to the United Kingdom and 9% to France. 

Price of exports 
Between January 2012 and March 2018, the average price of a kilo of frozen shrimp and langoustine exported by countries in the region ranged between $9.17 and $4.74.
