Exports by Country
From January to June 2020 Costa Rica remained the leading exporter of frozen fruit in the region, with $86 million. It is followed by Guatemala with $16 million and El Salvador with $5 million. Panama, Nicaragua and Honduras did not record significant exports.

In the first half of 2020, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica increased their sales in year-on-year terms by 646%, 22% and 5%, respectively.

Exports, Slightly Up
Between the first six months of 2019 and the same period of 2020, the exported value of frozen fruit grew by 32%, from $46 million to $61 million. In the case of the volume sold it is reported that for the periods in question increased from 38,275 tons in 2019 to 44,885 tons in 2020.

Destination of exported products
From January to June 2020, 63% of the value exported from Central America was destined for the USA, 7% for Canada, 5% for Belgium, 4% for the UK, 4% for Germany and 3% for Chile.

The U.S. is the destination market for Central American sales that has grown the most for the period of analysis in recent years, going from 53% of the total in 2012 to 63% in 2020.

In recent years, the average price of Central American sales has been on an upward trend, rising from $1.04 to $1.45 per kilo between August 2019 and June 2020, an increase of 39%.

In recent years the downward trend in the average price of regional frozen fruit exports has not been reversed, as between June 2016 and September 2019 it fell from $1.60 to $1.14 per kilo.

In the first half of the year, countries in the region exported $51 million in frozen fruit, 11% less than in the same period in 2017.

Frozen Fruit: More Exports in 2018

In the first quarter of the year, countries in the region exported $27 million worth of frozen fruit, 10% more than in the same period in 2017.
