Fridges: Business with Mexico up 23%

From January to April 2020, Central American companies imported from Mexico $39 million in refrigerators and freezers, 23% more than what was sold during the same period in 2019.

Variation of Imports by Market
During the first quarter of 2020, companies in Nicaragua, Panama and Guatemala increased their purchases of cold production machines from Mexican companies, reporting year-on-year variations of 23%, 16% and 9%, respectively.

In the case of El Salvador, Costa Rica and Honduras for the period in question imports from Mexico fell, recording variations over the same period in 2019 of -18%, -20% and -71%, in that order.

Guatemala, the main buyer of Mexican refrigerators
In the first four months of 2020, the main Central American buyer of refrigerators from Mexico was Guatemala, with $13 million, followed by Panama, with $11 million, and Costa Rica, with $8 million.

As of April this year, imports from El Salvador amounted to $4 million, those from Nicaraguan companies added $2 million and those from Honduran companies added $1.3 million.

Central American Purchases to Mexico Increasing
Between the first four months of 2019 and the same period in 2020, the value imported by the countries of the region increased by 23% from $32 million to $39 million.

Central America is the second most important market for Mexican refrigeration production machines, as it is only surpassed by the U.S. in terms of imports.
