Franchises Booming in Panama

Not only fast food franchises are growing, but also hospitality ones.

For example, during the first six months of 2013, seven Friday's restaurants, established in the country and run by the local group UNESA, recorded revenues of $9 million. Although some of these facilities reported low sales, the company says it is due to the stabilization of consumers, the time of year and other factors.

As for Panamanian brands, many of them are not franchised but are venturing farther and farther into the local market. Pio Pio, which are under the administration of Grupo Melo had sales of $77 million during the second quarter of 2013, increasing its profits by 5%. The company plans to open 70 restaurants by the end of the year.

Pizza Chain is Preparing New Investments

In Costa Rica, the Pizza Hut chain expects to invest about $1.6 million in the next few months in the opening of six new sales points outside the Greater Metropolitan Area.

Taco Bell Returns to Panama

Next June 15, Franquicias Panameñas will open the first Panamanian Taco Bell fast food restaurant franchise in Multiplaza Mall.

Besides the store in Multiplaza, the US franchise will open restaurants in El Dorado, Albrook, Metro and Villa Lucre shopping malls, among others.
