Footwear: Guatemala Main Buyer 2020

During 2020 Guatemala remained in the lead in regional imports with $51.5 million and the largest supplier of the year was China with 39.3%, in the year-on-year variation of Central America decreased by 14.76% by obtaining only $629.7 million compared to 2019 with $755.4 million.

Regional Business to Decline
Between 2019 and 2020, the imported value of footwear and its parts in Central America registered a decrease of 16.65%, going from $755.4 million to $629.7 million.

For the periods in question, imports from China increased to 39.30% and Panama's Free Trade Zone decreased by 14.76%.

Guatemalan Companies, Main Buyers
During 2020, the main importer in the region continued to be Guatemala with $51.5 million, followed by Panama with $34 million, Costa Rica with $33.8 million, El Salvador with $26.8 million, Honduras with $19.9 million and Nicaragua with $13.2 million.

In 2020, all Central American markets decreased their purchases. In Nicaragua, imports decreased 2.35% year-on-year, in Costa Rica 23.25%, Guatemala 6.38%, in Honduras 29.32%, El Salvador 14.83% and the main country with a reduction in purchases was Panama with 47.11%.

China, Main Supplier to the Region
The highest value imported from Central America in 2020 came from China with 39.30%, Zona Franca Panama 14.76%, Panama 9.59%, USA 7.04%, El Salvador 5.5%, Vietnam 4.93%, 3.71% from Mexico and Guatemala 3.58%.

For the last few years China is the market of origin of purchases that has grown the most, rising from 30.32% in 2012 to 39.30% in 2020.

Sports Footwear: Business in Central America

January 2019

From January to June 2018, countries in the region imported $25 million in sports footwear, and 50% were bought by companies in Guatemala and Costa Rica.
