Food: Interests and preferences

An analysis of consumer interests and preferences in Costa Rica, prepared by the Trade Intelligence Unit of CentralAmericaData, yields interesting results on the characteristics of people who show interest in different types of food.

The population with the highest average income in the country shows interest in vegan, vegetarian and organic foods. When analysing each segment, it can be seen that 10% of the population shows interest in vegan foods, and of this group of consumers, seven out of ten are between 21 and 45 years old.

Seven percent of the population is interested in organic food, and 36 percent of these consumers are between the ages of 31 and 45.

When analysing the general population, it is observed that 11% show preference for vegetarian foods, and 57% of that segment is between 31 and 59 years.

In the case of meat, for example, 27% of Costa Ricans report interest in this type of food, and of that portion of the population, 72% are between 21 and 45 years old.
