Fish Preparations: Price Up 38%

Between February 2016 and June 2018, the average price of Central American exports of prepared and preserved fish increased 38%, from $3.72 to $5.13 per kilo.

Regional exports are not increasing
Between the first half of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the value of fish preparations and preserves exported from Central America did not show significant variations.

However, for the periods concerned the value exported to Italy increased 17%, from $12 million to $15 million.

El Salvador, main seller
From January to June 2018, the main exporter continued to be El Salvador, with $45 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $16 million, Panama, with $2 million, Nicaragua with $200 thousand and Guatemala with $100 thousand. On the other hand, Honduras did not register exports.

Italy, main buyer
In the first six months of 2018, 23% of the value exported from Central America went to Italy, 22% to Spain, 7% to the U.S. and 2% to Colombia.

Italy is the destination country for Central American exports that has grown the most in the first half of the last seven years. In 2012 it represented 5% of the total value sold, and in 2018 it reached 23%.

Fish Preparations: Growing Business with Italy

September 2018

In the first quarter of the year sales of prepared and preserved fish from Central America totaled $34 million, and exports to the European country grew by 14% compared to the same period in 2017.

Frozen Shrimp: Numbers Up to March 2018

In the first quarter of the year, Central American countries exported $90 million worth of frozen shrimp and langoustine, which is 76% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly due to sales to the US and Taiwan.
