Fish Preparations: El Salvador is the Main Exporter in the Region

Sales of fish preparations and canned fish, caviar and its substitutes prepared with fish roe in the Central American region remained relatively stable, with a value of $22.3 million and 4,182 tons, with El Salvador being the main exporter with $82 million.

Regional Exports Do Not Grow
Between 2020 and the same period of 2021, the exported value of fish preparations and canned fish from Central America did not register significant variations, reflecting a decrease in the variation of value by 2.1% corresponding to $22.3 million, with respect to volume it dropped by 8.79% in 4,182 tons.

However, for the periods in question, the value exported to Spain grew 16.92%, rising from $20.1 million to $23.5 million.

El Salvador, Main Seller
In 2021, the main exporter continued to be El Salvador with $82.1 million, followed by Costa Rica with $40.2 million, Panama with $4.3 million, Guatemala with $500 thousand. Honduras and Nicaragua did not report significant exports.

Spain, Main Buyer
By 2021, 18% of the value exported from Central America was destined for Spain, followed by Italy 18%, Panama 14%, Costa Rica 13%, 10% USA, Guatemala 7%, Nicaragua and El Salvador 5%, and 2% for Germany, Dominican Republic and Colombia.

The United States of America is the Central American export destination country that has grown the most in the last ten years. In 2012 it represented 2.52% of the total value sold and in 2021 it reached 9.56%.

Truck Tires: China is the Main supplier

July 2022

For 2021, the value of imports of tires for use in buses and trucks in Central America is observed for $299 million, which is an increase in the variation of almost 40% from the period analyzed from 2012 to 2020, in addition, the main supplier of this product is China, which has led in the region.

Toilet Paper: Costa Rica, Main Importer

July 2022

By 2021, toilet paper imports increased slightly by 6% to reach $280 million, with Costa Rica being the main importer in the Central American region with $69 million, the main supplier to Central America was El Salvador with $170 million.
