In regards to imports of the fruit, the main buyer in the region in 2015 was El Salvador, which imported 20 thousand tons at a value of $3.6 million, followed by Costa Rica, which bought 16 thousand tons at a value of $2 million.

In the first nine months of 2018, Central American countries exported pineapple for $828 million, 9% more than in the same period in 2017, mainly because of sales to U.S. companies.

Pineapple Exports from Central America Up 6%

April 2017

Led by Costa Rica, in 2016 the value of pineapple exports amounted to $954 million, equivalent in volume to 2 million tons, 6% more than was sold in 2015.
