Imports by country 
During the first semester of 2017, the main purchaser of pharmaceutical products in Central America was Costa Rica, with $399 million, followed by Guatemala, with $316 million, Panama, with $233 million, Honduras, with $209 million, Nicaragua, with $207 million and El Salvador, with $169 million. 

Variation of regional imports 
Between the first semester of 2016 and the same period in 2017 the value of pharmaceutical products imported into Central America did not register significant variations.

However, for the period in question, purchases from Germany went up by 11%, rising from $121 million in the first half of last year to $134 million in the same period of 2017.

Origin of imports 
From January to June 2017, 9% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 9% from Mexico, 9% from Germany and 4% from India. 

Germany is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most, since in the first semester of 2012 it represented 4% of the total value purchased, and in the same period of 2017 this rose to 9%.

In contrast to the behavior of imports from Germany, purchases from the USA decreased, since in the first semester of 2012 they represented 16% of the total, while in 2017 this proportion dropped to 9%.
