Fewer Tourists Arriving in Dominican Republic

Between January and October 2018 and the same period in 2019, the number of tourists who arrived in the country reported a 1.2% drop, which contrasts with the increases recorded years ago.

The cumulative arrival of non-resident visitors by area in the period January-October 2019 shows a total of 5,359,903 travelers, for a -1.2% variation over the same period last year, equivalent to a decrease of 64,496 tourists, reported the Central Bank.

The document explains that "... Regarding the particular case of the arrival of non-resident passengers to the Dominican Republic (foreigners and Dominicans) in the month of October 2019, it is observed that it was 372,205 visitors, which meant a reduction of 42,777 passengers (-10.3%) with respect to the same month of 2018.

This behavior is the result of the 16.1% year-on-year decrease in the arrival of non-resident foreigners (56,495 passengers less than October 2018), which was partially mitigated by the annualized growth of 21.4% in the line of non-resident Dominicans, that is, 13,718 more visitors than in the month of October 2018.

As for the cumulative influx of foreigners according to regions of residence during the ten months of 2019, it is observed that 59.3% of visitors arrived from North America, 22.9% from Europe, 13.1% from South America, 4.3% from Central America and the Caribbean and the remaining 0.4% from Asia and the Rest of the World.

Dominican Republic: Tourist Arrivals Stagnating

Between January and September 2018 and the same period in 2019, the number of tourists who arrived in the country did not report significant changes, behavior in contrast with the increases reported years ago.

The accumulated arrival of non-resident visitors via area to the Dominican Republic in the period January-September 2019 shows a total of 4,987,698 travelers, amount that is like the amount recorded in the same period last year, when 5,009,417 non-resident passengers entered the country, informed the Central Bank.

During July of this year, 591,348 tourists arrived in the country, 11% less than the figure reported in the same month of 2018.

Regarding the case of the arrival of non-resident passengers to the Dominican Republic (foreigners and Dominicans) in July 2019, it is observed that the same was 591,348 visitors, which meant a reduction of 74,321 passengers compared to the same month in 2018, informed the Central Bank.

Dominican Republic: Tourist Arrivals Keep Rising

November 2018

From January to October of this year, 5.4 million tourists arrived in the country, 6% more than the figure reported for the same period in 2017.

The cumulative arrival of non-resident visitors by air in the January-October 2018 totaled 5,424,399 travelers, an increase of 317,247 additional tourists over the same period last year, equivalent to a 6.2% growth.

From January to June of this year, the Dominican Republic registered the arrival of 3.4 million tourists, 6% more than was reported in the same period in 2017.

From a Report by the Central Bank of the Dominican Republic:

In the month of June 2018, the records show a total arrival of 586,807 non-resident passengers by air, of which 497,997 were foreigners and 88,810 were non-resident Dominicans, representing growth of 7.5% with respect to the same month in the year 2017, keeping the Dominican Republic as the main tourist destination in the insular Caribbean. Within this result, the foreigners segment recorded an annualized increase of 6.3%, while non-resident Dominicans experienced a variation of 15.4%.
