Fertilizers: Business Figures with Mexico

From January to November 2019, companies in the countries of the region imported $35 million in fertilizers from Mexico, and 83% were bought by Guatemalan companies.

Imports by Country
In the first 11 months of 2019, the main Central American buyer of fertilizers from Mexico was Guatemala with $29 million, followed by Costa Rica with $3 million, Honduras with $1.2 million, Nicaragua with $900,000, Panama with $300,000 and El Salvador with $200,000.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between the first eleven months of 2018 and the same period in 2019, the value imported decreased by 53%, from $73 million to $35 million.

Regarding the volume imported, a considerable decrease was also reported, since for the periods in question it fell from 163,000 tons to 73,000 tons, equivalent to a variation of -52%.

During the first half of 2018, purchases by countries in the region reached $494 million, 12% more than imports during the same period the previous year.

Price of Imported Fertilizers Continues to Fall

July 2018

The average price per kilo of fertilizers imported by the Central American countries dropped from $0.54 in January 2012 to $0.27 in March 2018, registering a 50% drop.
