Between January and September 2016 the countries of the region exported 399 thousand tons of metalliferous minerals, led by Guatemala, with 375 thousand tons.

Exports by country 
In the first three quarters of 2016 Guatemala was the main and almost absolute exporter (in terms of volume) of metalliferous metals with 376 thousand tons, equivalent to $13 million, followed by Honduras with 23 thousand tons sold, corresponding to $33 million in value. Exports from El Salvador and Nicaragua are insignificant compared to exports by the region.  For their part, Costa Rica and Panama did not record any exports. 

Destination of exports 
In the first three quarters of 2016, 50% of the volume exported from Central America went to Greece, 29% to China, 9% to Japan, 6% to Switzerland and 5% to South Korea.

Behavior of regional exports 
Between January 2012 and September 2016, the month that recorded the highest monthly export volume was August 2014, when the region as a whole sold 199 thousand tons, for which it received $13.8 million, while the month with the lowest figure was January 2014, with 35 tons.

August 2017

In 2016 Central American countries sold 713 thousand tons of metalliferous minerals abroad, equivalent to $61 million.

In 2015 Honduras and Guatemala exported ores such as zinc, nickel and other precious metals worth $47 million and $46 million respectively.

Figures from the Report on Import and Export of Ores, Slag and Ash in Central America, prepared by the Business Intelligence Unit at CentralAmericaData.com show that in 2015 the countries in the region exported 1,207,000 tons of ores, slag and ash, equivalent in value to $93.4 million.
