Seafood Company Invests $38 million

The investment of Grupo Calvo in El Salvador will be used to acquire a ship, to build a new production floor and a refrigerated area.

Eleconomista.net reports that "...The first step starts on Thursday with the arrival of the new vessel belonging to the Ugavi group and which, through a commercial alliance, will be able to supply fish to the Calvo plant in the department of La Union. This boat will cost $20 million. Calvo currently has six vessels of its own and two in the Spanish Ugavi group: the Ugavi2 and the new one is Sisargas, with eight exclusive vessels used for supply."

According to Boris Quintanilla, country manager of Grupo Calvo " ...The new vessels of the Spanish partner will provide between 12,000 to 16,000 tons of fish per year."

Frozen Shrimp Exports Up 7%

In 2016 Central American countries exported $344 million worth of shrimp and frozen langoustine, 7% more than in 2015.

Between January and September 2016 Central American countries exported 29 thousand tons of frozen shrimp and prawn to countries outside of the region, equivalent to $204 million.
