Electronic Tagging: First company authorized

In Guatemala, the Superintendence of Tax Administration authorized Corporación Disatel S.A. to provide the service of electronic tags for the control of containers in the country.

Thursday, May 28, 2020

The control of containers through the use of electronic tags has been postponed in the country. In November 2018 the authorities of the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) reported that with the authorization of the two companies interested in providing the service, the service would begin in 2019, however, it was not until 2020 when the first company was authorized.

Victor Rivera, a foreign trade consultant and customs agent, told Elperiodico.com.gt that "... The cost for leasing an electronic tag would be between $30 and $40. 'SAT outsourced the service and the company must be authorized at the Ministry of the Interior and have the server and an electronic control area for monitoring the container."

Rivera added that "... At the airport and in Santo Tomás there are specific areas for the revision of the tags, but the schedules of the SAT delegations need to be extended for the arrival and open. The system has advantages for monitoring all the traffic of the container, you can see on the map if it was stopped or the kilometers traveled."

According to Héctor Fajardo, general director of the Central American Transporters' Chamber (Catransca), the importers will be the ones to assume the cost of the march, although those who provide the transport service can cover it with the subsequent refund of the client.
