Central American Companies Buy Less
Between the first three months of 2019 and the same period in 2020, the total value of electric motors and generators imported into Central America registered a 39% decrease, dropping from $48 million to $29 million.

Four of the six countries recorded year-on-year increases in their purchases. In Panama imports increased 59%, in Guatemala 38%, in Nicaragua 30% and in Honduras they varied by only 1%.

Costa Rica and El Salvador registered negative variations, which amounted to -15% and -80%, respectively.

Guatemala, Main Importer
From January to March 2020 the main buyer of electric motors and generators in Central America was Guatemala, with $9 million, followed by El Salvador, with $6 million, Panama, with $5 million, Costa Rica, with $5 million, Honduras, with $3 million and Nicaragua, with $1.2 million.

Most Important Suppliers
As of March 2020, 30% of the value imported from Central America came from the United States, 24% from Spain, 15% from China, 5% from Taiwan, 5% from Mexico, 3% from Germany and 3% from Brazil.

Spain is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most for the period in question in the last eight years, since in 2012 it represented 1% of the total value purchased and in 2020 it reached 24%.
