Variation of regional imports 
Between 2016 and 2017 the import value of transformers and electric converters and reactors in Central America registered an increase of 2%, rising from $311 million bought in 2016 to $317 million in 2017. 

With the increase recorded last year, a slight recovery in imports was achieved, as between 2015 and 2016 a 15% drop was reported.

Imports by country 
In 2017, the main importer was Costa Rica, with $69 million, followed by Panama, with $68 million, Guatemala, with $65 million, Honduras, with $44 million, Nicaragua, with $38 million, and El Salvador, with $34 million. 

Origin of imports 
In 2017, 32% of the value imported from Central America came from the USA, 16% from China, 12% from Mexico, 6% from Colombia, 5% from Italy and 4% from Spain.

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the last six years, as in 2012 it represented 11% of the total imports of the region and last year that figure rose to 16%.

Central America Buys More Electric Transformers

September 2018

In the first quarter of the year, countries in the region imported $81 million worth of electrical transformers, registering an increase of 9% compared to the amount reported in the same period in 2017.

Costa Rica Buys More Electrical Transformers

March 2018

From January to September 2017, companies in Costa Rica bought $51 million worth of electrical transformers from abroad, 28% more than in the same period in 2016.
