In 2018, Central American countries allocated $310 million to the purchase of electrical transformers, and 45% was imported by companies in Panama and Costa Rica.

Imports by Country
Last year the main importer was Panama, with $72 million, followed by Costa Rica, with $67 million, Guatemala, with $56 million, Honduras, with $46 million, El Salvador, with $39 million and Nicaragua, with $31 million.

Variation in Regional Imports
Between 2017 and 2018, the value of imported transformers and electric converters and reactance coils in Central America fell 2%, from $317 million to $311 million.

Main Suppliers
For the first half of the year, 31% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 16% from China, 12% from Mexico, 3% from Spain and 4% from Colombia.

China is the market of origin of imports that has grown the most in the last seven years, since in 2012 represented 11% of total imports in the region and this past year rose to 16%.
