Regional Imports Decline
Between the first semester of 2017 and the same period of 2018, the imported value of electric motors and generators in Central America decreased 6%, from $79 million to $74 million.

El Salvador, main importer
From January to June of last year, the main buyer of electric motors and generators in Central America was El Salvador, with $20 million, followed by Guatemala, with $17 million, Costa Rica, with $15 million, Panama, with $12 million, Honduras, with $7 million and Nicaragua, with $3 million.

Most important suppliers
During the first six months of 2018, 25% of the value imported from Central America was from the U.S., 19% from Croatia, 15% from China, 7% from Japan, 6% from Spain and 5% from Taiwan.

China is the country of origin of Central American imports that has grown the most in the first half of the last seven years, since in 2012 it represented 3% of the total value purchased and in 2018 reached 15%.

In the first three months of 2018 imports of electric motors and generators added up to $16 million, a figure that is triple the $5 million that the Central American country bought in the same period in 2017.

Guatemala Buys More Electric Generators

July 2018

Between January and March of this year, companies in Guatemala imported $8 million worth of electric generators, 18% more than in the same period in 2017, and 55% came from the United States and China.
