Jerry Taylor, director of natural resource studies at the Cato Institute, wrote: “Earth Day (April 22) is traditionally a day for the Left -- a celebration of government's ability to deliver the environmental goods and for threats about the parade of horribles that will descend upon us lest we rededicate ourselves to federal regulators and public land managers. This is unfortunate because it's businessmen -- not bureaucrats or environmental activists -- who deserve most of the credit for the environmental gains over the past century and who represent the best hope for a Greener tomorrow”.

Taylor’s article, published on Elcato.org and commented by Juan Carlos Hidalgo in Elfinancierocr.com, leads us to analyze – and doubt- the perception many people hold as to how we can walk the much needed route to development in a sustainable way. Intuitively considering free enterprise as ‘prima facie’ guilty may not be the way to go...

102 tourism businesses were recognized by the ICT for their environmentally friendly operations and their communities.

The Costa Rican Tourism Institute (ICT) has given these awards to a group of hotels and tour operators, which carry "leaves” one to five. A rating of five "leaves" means best environmental practice and social sustainability.
