El Salvador to Host Central American Travel Market

From October 9 – 11, 2009, the city of San Salvador will host the sixth edition of the Central American Travel Market (CATM).

The CATM Fair is the region's most important showcase because it is a platform that promotes business between the tourism sector in Central America and the rest of world. This event’s organization is provided by the private tourism sector in the region, through the Federation of Chambers of Tourism of Central America (FEDECATUR), with support from the ministries or institutes of tourism in the region which are represented in the Central American Tourism Council (CCT).

According to an article in Elsalvador.com, in last year's edition which was held in Nicaragua, "we had visits from 175 wholesalers from Northern America, Europe, Asia and Latin America."

In that edition, over 180 exhibitors and 50 journalists from various media in the tourism industry attended the fair.

From 4 to 6 October, San Pedro Sula will host the ninth edition of the Business Negotiations for CATM Honduras 2012 (which stands for the Central America Travel Market).

The meeting will bring together 120 wholesalers from about 15 countries, representatives of about 40 international media and over 200 entrepreneurs in Central America.

Central America Takes Part in FITUR 2012

At the International Tourism Fair of Madrid 2012 (FITUR), the region is jointly aiming to give impetus to sustainable tourism.

The Costa Rican Tourism Minister, Alan Flores Moya said one of the objectives is to present the region as multi cultural and nature filled.

"Aside from presenting the national plans of each Central American country, Panama, Guatemala, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Honduras and Belize will be in the Spanish capital targeting the European market as one of their preferred customers, as several ministers told Efe Tourism in the region.

Taca and CATA Target Europan, Asian Tourists

August 2009

The regional airline and the Agency for Tourism Promotion in Central America (CATA) signed an agreement to bring tourists to the isthmus.

Taca will provide $500.000, special discounts for Asian and European wholesalers and will engage in promotional activities during the Centroamérica Travel Market trade show.
