The first regional textile and clothing forum with discuss challenges facing the region against Asia´s accelerated growth in Asia.
Emilio Herrera, chief executive of the Salvadoran Chamber of Textiles and Apparel (CAMTEX) released some figures in an interview with ElSalvador.com "... from 2000 to 2009 Asia increased 1.5 times its exports, the CAFTA region exported in 2009 only 68.6 percent of what was exported in 2000, China multiplied 4.9 times its exports to the U.S. from 2000 to 2009 and El Salvador last year exported only 82.4 percent of what exported in 2000.”
It is time for transparent information to be given on which Central American governments continue to obstruct the essential unification of border formalities.

The Council of Ministers for Economic Integration (Comieco) which met in Managua on September 4 and 5 ended, as always happens in these meetings with public officials, with a statement of good intentions including promises to "work on the standardization of procedures at border posts and a regional strategy for trade facilitation," objectives which have been stated often and which up to now are far from being realised.
In 2010 the sector reported revenues of $ 1.793 million compared to $ 1.422 million in 2009.
Patricia Figueroa, director of the Chamber of Textile Apparel (CAMTEX), said they hope to continue growing in 2011 despite the increase in prices in raw materials, including cotton.
From June 10 – 14, the VII Central American Small Hotel Forum will be held in Panama, bringing together more than 150 hoteliers.
The goal is to propose strategies to strengthen tourism integration in Central America so that it will become a single destination. The Association of Small Panamanian Hotels (HOPP), in partnership with the Tourism Authority of Panama (ATP) and the active participation of the Central American Federation of Small Hotels (FECAPH), organized the forum.
On April 23 and 24, El Salvador will host the Second Latin American and Caribbean Meeting of Trade and Investment.
Among the topics to be discussed at the meeting organized by the Salvadoran Commission for the Promotion of Exports and Investments (PROESA and EXPORTA) are: the impacts of the global crisis on developing countries and the measures that have been taken to mitigate it; an analysis of the Latin American and Caribbean competitive situation in infrastructure and trade services and the situation of the tourism sector, including its current challenges and opportunities.
