El Salvador Promotes Country's North

FUSADES Launched the Website ww.epridex.org, for international investors.

Operated by the Investment Promotion and Exports Diversification Program (PRIDEX), the website is intended to promote investment in the country's north.

Emma Arauz, PRIDEX director, was quoted by La Prensa Gráfica as saying: "The northern zone has a special need to promote itself. There are many projects, and some areas are taking off, like tourism and agriculture".

According to Best Practices Study of Global Investment Promotion (Global Investment Promotion Best Practices) 2012 World Bank, 80 percent of investment promotion agencies are not responding to enquiries by investors in the key sectors of agribusiness and tourism, despite the fact that countries are competing to attract investment.

The website http://guatemala.eregulations.org/ has been created to publicise legal requirements, streamline the time it takes to register a company and encourage formal employment.

"Today it takes at least 19 different interactions with 6 different public institutions in order to formalize a business (in other countries it requires only 10), 500,000 new businesses open in Guatemala and only 5 percent are formally registered", reports Elperiodico.com.gt.
