El Salvador: Walmart Invests $50 million

At two months time the chain will open two new stores, adding about 12 thousand square meters of retail space.

According to an article in Elmundo.com.sv, Claudia Ibanez, manager of corporate affairs for Walmart, said: "The shops will be located in Colonia Escalon and Mejicanos, having an investment of $25 million each."

"... The branch in Colonia Escalon will open this Friday September 20th and is located on Alameda Manuel Enrique Araujo, where there used to be another hypermarket. "

In Mejicanos, where opposition groups from the area fought for nearly seven years against the installation there of Walmart, the new store will open its doors to the public "in late October this year."

Walmart Opens New Store in El Salvador

With an investment of $4 million, the multinational has opened its first retail store under the 'Maxi Despensa' brand.

Located in San Marcos, the new facility has created approximately 40 jobs, and has 1,200 square feet and a parking area for 76 vehicles.

Walmart also announced that this month it is opening a ‘Despensa Familiar’ in Olocuilta, La Paz. This store will cost one million dollars and will generate 20 jobs.

Walmart to Invest $43.6 Million in Honduras

The construction of three new stores by the supermarket chain will create 338 direct posts and more than 5,000 indirect jobs.

The investment was announced by Walmart general manager, Alberto Ebrad, after a meeting with Honduran president, Porfirio Lobo. Ebrad indicated that this will be the company's main investment this year in Central America.

New Walmart Stores in Costa Rica

April 2011

The multinational retail chain is in the process of opening two new outlets in Costa Rica for this year.

These are in the Palí format and are located at Cristo Rey and San Rafael de Montes de Oca.

With the opening, Costa Rica now has 136 stores and with them, Walmart of Mexico and Central America totals 552 sale points throughout the region.
