El Salvador: Training for Companies in Value Chains
The training will support producers of food and beverages so that they can comply with the Food and Drug Administration's Modernization Act for Food Safety.

The National Quality Council, through the Salvadoran Agency for Standardization (OSN), the Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments of El Salvador (PROESA) and the Corporation of Exporters of El Salvador (COEXPORT) are promoting the program "EXPORT QUALITY" inaugurated by the President of the National Quality Council and Minister of Economy, Armando Flores, on July 24, 2013. This program aims to strengthen companies who produce food and drink so that they are able to comply with the Modernization Act for Safety Food, of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Over 15 months, the NSO will provide training to support the development of the supply chain related to identified target companies, guiding them through the process of certification in effective management of safety systems .

The deadline for food exporters to update their details with the Food and Drug Administration of USA is December 31, 2014.
From a statement issued by the Foreign Trade Promotion Office of Costa Rica (PROCOMER):
Every company which manufactures, processes, packs or holds food for human or animal consumption and export to the United States must renew its registration with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as part of the measures included in the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The deadline for this adjustment will be from 1 October to 31 December.
The Exporters Corporation has created a plan to increase exports to $10 billion a year within five years.
Entrepreneurs believe that if the correct measures are applied export earnings could double within five years. According to Pablo Duran, president of the Exporters Association of El Salvador (COEXPORT), the proposal gives potential annual growth of 20%.
Targeting the markets of Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua, the Export Promotion Agency of El Salvador has relaunched the program in support of SMEs.

Under the Export Promotion Strategy, the Government of El Salvador launched on Tuesday April 16 the third edition of the Step by Step Export Program, a coordinated effort between the Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments of El Salvador (PROESA) and the Ministry of Economy (MINEC), which has the support of the Technical Secretariat of the Presidency (STP), the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), through USAID's development program for SMEs, and the Special Fund of Resources from the Proceeds of the Privatization of ANTEL (FANTEL). It is expected that one hundred Salvadoran firms will initially be assisted as exporters and that there will be negotiations totalling over $5 million.
In 2011 sales of Salvadoran services abroad totaled $1.1 billion, 10% more than in 2010.

The Agency for Promotion of Exports and Investments in El Salvador, PROESA, today (Wednesday 24th) held the 1st International Forum on Export of Services in order to raise awareness of global trends, the outlook for the region and the country as well of some of the success stories of exporters of services. The Forum's main purpose was to stimulate more interest by Salvadoran firms to venture into this activity with high growth potential.
