El Salvador: Roadworks for $7.2 million

An award has been made to the company Constructora DISA of a contract for the design and construction of improvements to three sections of the road connecting the towns of Nueva Trinidad and Arcatao, Chalatenango.

On August 29th, 2014 the Ministry of Works, Housing and Urban Development decided to award the contract for the project "Reconstruction of CHA07E Road, Section: Est 13 + 000-New Trinidad - Arcatao municipalities of Nueva Trinidad and Arcatao Department. Chalatenango "to the company Constructora DISA S.A. de C.V. which submitted a bid of $7,167,774, according to the public procurement website of El Salvador, Comprasal.gob.sv.

The specifications of the international tender for the works, which will take place in the form of a turnkey project, state that "...The maximum period allowed to the Contractor for the various stages of the project are:

Design Phase: 90 calendar days.
Construction Stage: 240 calendar days.
Total Term: 330 calendar days.

"...The work is of great importance to provide road connectivity to the municipalities of Nueva Trinidad and Arcatao in the north of the country. This will result in the creation of new trade routes and transit of persons benefiting a large segment of people in the department of Chalatenango. "

Finally the government of El Salvador has reported the results of the tender for the works on the Diego Hoguin Boulevard.

A statement from the Ministry of Public Works, Transportation and Housing and Urban Development reads:

The Minister of Public Works, Gerson Martinez, reported today ahead of the anticipated date for the award, the winners of the competitive tender for the project to complete the Diego de Holguín Boulevard Segment II, which has been subdivided in Section II-A and Section II-B, and whose order to proceed with work will be given in the next few days.

After two failed tender processes, El Salvador's Minsitry for Public Works (MOP in Spanish) has received four bids to construct the new highway.

The new highway will connect the country's capital San Salvador with Santa Tecla 9.9 kilometers (6.5 miles) away.

According to a MOP press release, of ten companies that were invited to tender, four have expressed an interest in building the second stretch of the Bulevar Diego de Holguín road, which will see the project completed.
