El Salvador Removes Import Tariff on Flour

The government temporarily suspended the 10% tariff on imports of flour until March 31st.

The Finance Minister, Hector Dada Hirezi, stated, "no additional requirements for the import of flour will be required, any individual or company can import, simply by complying with custom formalities normally required for such operations," published Lapagina.com.sv.

The request presented by El Salvador to the Council of Ministers of Economic Integration (COMIECO), was approved by Resolution No. 254.

Removal of Tariffs on Wheat Flour

In order to mitigate the impact of rising raw material prices on bakeries, the government of El Salvador is investigating eliminating the import tax.

The head of the ministry of economy, Armando Flores said, "We are exploring the possibility of temporarily eliminating tariffs, o as to help mitigate the price increase that has been felt."

The Ministry of Finance has extended the deadline for the imports of duty free wheat flour until Dec 31.

The closing date had previously been set for the end of July.

"Luis Velasquez, Finance Minister, said the quota is for 25,000 metric tons (MT) of wheat flour. He added that so far 9,923 MT have been delivered and 15,76 MT are available to the public.

Guatemala to Eliminate Tariff on Wheat Flour

The Ministry of Economy proposed the elimination of the 5% tariff on imports of wheat flour.

The finance minister, Erick Coyoy, said the measure seeks to alleviate the increased price in commodities on the international market.
