Changes in imports  
Between January and September of the years 2016 and 2017 the import volume of processed meat registered an increase of 8%, rising from 7,000 tons in 2016 to 8,000 tons in 2017.

For the periods in question, the import value also recorded growth, rising from $19 million in 2016 to $21 million in 2017.

From January to September of the years between 2013 and 2017, the value of Salvadoran purchases abroad grew steadily reaching an annual average of 11%. 

Origin of imports 
From January to September 2017, 70% of the value imported from El Salvador originated in Guatemala, 15% in Mexico, 8% in the US, 5% in Costa Rica and 1% in Spain. 

Price of imports
Between October 2012 and September 2017, the average price of kilo of processed meat imports fell 23%, going from $3.22 to $2.48.

Between January and September 2016, Central American countries together imported $74 million in sausages and similar meat products, at an average price of between $2.37 and $2.85 per kilo.
