El Salvador Negotiates $250 Million with WB

Representatives from the World Bank are evaluating the projects for which the government is seeking loans.

Alexander Segovia, technical secretary of the President, reported that the Bank could approve the loans in November, adding they are intended for social programs.

More statements by Segovia were published in Elsalvador.com: "...these $250 million will be split in 5 parts ... $100 million will support the Government's budget in 2010 ... $60 million for the temporary jobs program and job creation, ... $50 million for various local development programs and $20 million for funding rural infrastructure projects".

$ 64 Million From Germany to Honduras

The government signed a technical and financial assistance treaty with Germany for $ 64 million.

The funds will go to social projects on environment and governance, housing and support programs for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).

"The Honduran Minister of the Presidency, expressed satisfaction for completing successfully the intense negotiation process between both economic technical teams, which led to the signing of a cooperation agreement for $ 64 million," reported website Proceso Digital.

BCIE Disburses $ 100 Million to Honduras

The funds are part of a total of $ 280 million for social programs.

To support the efforts of Honduras in implementing the Millennium Development Goals, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) disbursed a $ 100 million loan to the country.

The resources of this loan will contribute positively to compliance with six of the eight Millennium Development Goals, and through the different components of the program seeks to eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, support education, reduce mortality child mortality, improve maternal health, ensuring environmental sustainability and promoting gender equality.

Salvadoran Congress To Decide On $531 Million Loans

The Treasury Ministry of El Salvador requested the Legislative Assembly to approve six loans for $531 million with international organizations.

From the total, $200 million are with the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), $161.7 million with the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and $170 million with the World Bank (WB).

The resources are earmarked for municipal infrastructure projects, social initiatives and strengthening the Treasury Ministry.

Municipalities will receive $80 million to invest in infrastructure projects and production enhancement endeavors.

La Prensa Grafica reported that $100 million are earmarked for strengthening the Treasury Ministry, to assist in implementing the tax reform in effect since January 1st.
