Lower costs in markets such as the US and Canada is the main reason behind the increase in foreign exchange flows generated from medical tourism activities.

Elsalvador.com reports that "...According to the minister, Jose Napoleon Duarte, medical treatments in El Salvador cost less than in the US and represent a saving of between 20% and 50% for patients. "

"... The brand with which the country is looking to generate business, which will increase the number of tourists in search of medical treatment in El Salvador, is Destination For Health, which comprises 12 companies offering treatments in seven different specialties such as oncology, dentistry, general surgery, bariatric surgery (for treating obesity or weight disorders), plastic surgery, orthopedics and stem cells."
