El Salvador: Labor Market Figures in 2016

At the end of last year the unemployment rate stood at 7%, and when analyzed by age range, the rate rises to 14% for the group of young people aged between 14 and 24 years old.

From the Multiple Purpose Household Survey 2016 by the Ministry of Economy:

The unemployment rate, which expresses the proportion of the active economic population that the economic system, in a given period, can not absorb; stood at 7.0% in 2016.

The breakdown by geographical area reflects slight differences, with the urban unemployment rate being 0.3 percentage points lower than the rural one; On the contrary, when the sex variable is included in the analysis, there is a marked difference, since the unemployment rate among men is 2.8 percentage points higher than that of women. By age range it can be seen that unemployment in young people (16 to 24 years) is  14.2%, in people aged from 25 to 59 years it is of 5.1%, and for people older than 59 years it is 7.0%.

Unemployment in Costa Rica Remains at 10.4%

The net rate of national labor participation remained at 62.7% of the working age population, the same as it was in the second quarter of 2012.

From a press release issued by the National Institute of Statistics and Census (INEC):

The Costa Rican labor market shows stability between the second quarter of 2012 and the same period in 2013, when the net rate of national labor participation remained at 62.7% of the working age population. While men maintain a rate of 76%, the participation rate of women has wavered between 48% and 49% for more than a year, when it increased its share.

Unemployment Stands at 7.1% in El Salvador

Almost 30% of the economically active population is underemployed.

The Salvadoran government has announced that the unemployment rate reached 7.1% in July. While the figure is less than in the U.S., where 9.1% of active people can not find work, it is in line with the level of unemployment in other countries in Central America.
