El Salvador Invests $4 Million in Tourism Developments

These include the creation of new touristic routes, such as the one known as “Monseñor Romero” or “El Boquerón”.

José Napoleón Duarte, Tourism Minister, added they plan to strengthen the circuit known as “Sol y Playa” (Beach and Sun), at La Libertad Port and El Tunco Beach.

Duarte explained that these investments seek to increase the number of foreign tourists as well as domestic visitors.

The ministry is also considering the possibility of rebuilding the “Cerro Verde” (green hill) Hotel.

Tourism Reports $92 Million in Investments

Of the $91 million invested in tourism projects in El Salvador during 2018, 87% went to finance private works and 13% to public infrastructure.

The Ministry of Tourism (MITUR) reported that among the projects with private investment are works located in the Ruta de las Flores with an approximate investment of $6.27 million, in El Tunco beach with $3.8 million, in Boquerón $1.36 million and in the Ruta Fresca $1.8 million.

El Salvador Launches Tourism Campaign

The $1 million campaign will promote the country in the U.S. and Central America.

It will take place in the months of March, April and May and aims at attracting tourists for Easter holidays, said Tourism Minister Napoleon Duarte.

According to Duarte, the objective is to attract between 5.000 and 7.000 more tourists than in 2010.

El Salvador Analyzes Improvements to Tourism Incentives

The proposal presented by the Ministry of Tourism would reduce the minimum investment necessary to qualify for the incentives.

Napolén Duarte, Minister for Tourism, indicated that the intention is to halve the amount required, which currently stands at $50,000.

In an article in Laprensagrafica.com he is quoted saying, "we are working on presenting a reform to the president to update the law with the aim of allowing smaller investments and giving more opportunity to small and medium sized businesses".

Upcoming Tourism Center in Sherman, Panama

Consulting company C4T Tourism Business & Planning will develop a master plan for touristic development in the former Sherman military base.

Liriola Pittí, from the Economy Ministry, informed that once the study is ready they will proceed to market and promote it.

“Dámaso García, major of the province of Colón, commented that this is the most important tourism initiative of the past 25 years in Panama”, reported Laestrella.com.pa.
