El Salvador: Insecurity Forces to Plant to Shut Down

The beverage company Industrias La Constancia has temporarily suspended operations for its brand Agua Cristal because of insecurity in the country.

From a statement issued by Industrias La Constancia:

We wish to announce publicly that, due to escalating insecurity affecting communities around the "La Tiendona" Market and in order to ensure the physical integrity of our employees and contractors, we have been forced to temporarily suspend operations for Agua Cristal.

We trust that the relevant authorities, to whom we have denounced this situation can guarantee security conditions for communities, our employees and contractors as soon as possible.

El Salvador: Imported Beer Market is Growing

In the last ten years beer imports have doubled, going from $5.2 million in 2006 to $10.6 million last year.

The origin of imported beers has also diversified in the last ten years, since the vast majority of beers were imported from Guatemala in 2006, whereas now beers from Mexico, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands are imported and distributed in El Salvador.

Five days after announcing the suspension of operations because of insecurity, Industrias La Constancia has announced the resumption of works at the plant.

San Salvador, March 9, 2016. We appreciate the support and understanding of our customers, consumers, suppliers, contractors and friends during the extraordinary situation which forced us to temporarily suspend operations of Agua Cristal.

Beer Consumption Drops 15% in El Salvador

El Salvador: ILC stands out in SABMiller efficiency ranking.

La Constancia Industries (ILC) came in second for technical aspects in the preparation of beverages in the world ranking by British SABMiller.

This plant, located western edge of the capital, did well in the ranking for efficiency in energy and water consumption, waste generation and the use of infrastructure in general.
