El Salvador: Insecurity Affects Milk Production

Milk producers claim that the insecurity is affecting livestock farms and preventing the attraction of more investment to the sector.

Thursday, May 28, 2015

The Association of Milk Producers of El Salvador (Proleche) states that insecurity in some regions has forced SMEs to close. Although exports to markets such as the United States have increased and "... the dynamics in the formal milk producing sector are positive, the difficulties faced by small farmers are great."

Alfonso Escobar, national livestock farmer and president of PROLECHE told Laprensagrafica.com that "... 'As for losses I can not give details because the last census done on this issue it was in 2007. But beyond the numbers I can talk about the feelings we have as farmers'. "

Regarding support received by the sector, "... PROLECHE says it is doing forming partnerships with other private companies because they are more durable over time than those that could be made with the government. Between associated companies are Alliance, Bayern, Molsa, Salud, Petacones, San Julian and Lactosa. "
