El Salvador Inaugurates 115 Km of Electric Grid

On October 8th, Millennium Fund will inaugurate the first 115 km of the rural electricity network of the country's north.

The project, being developed by AES Group El Salvador, includes the construction of over 1.300 km of electricity lines in the next three years.

"Fomilenio's intends to suppy 97% of energy demand in the northern region of the country", reported Elsalvador.com

The institution plans to complete up to 94% of this year´s $ 461 million investment and conclude with 70% of the work done.

To date they have already completed two of the seven sections which include the Northern Highway. The institution plans to complete works by the middle of next year.

El Salvador to Lay 500 KM of Power Lines in 2010

In 2010, AES El Salvador will build 500 KM of electric power lines together with Fomilenio.

The joint program intends to deliver electricity to isolated populations in the north of the country.

"Fomilenio administers and executes a fund of more than $400 million approved by the United States to El Salvador through the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC)", reported Laprensagrafica.com.

Nicaragua: $497 Million in Renewable Energy

The government of Nicaragua is planning considerable investment in renewable energy in the next 4 years.

The announcement was made by Emilio Rappaccioli, Energy and Mines minister, in a press conference. He added they also plan to invest $203 million in rural electricity and up-keeping existing energy generation plants.

El Salvador: Tenders Presented for Rural Electrification

Bids are being received for the third phase of the Rural Electrification program, comprising 500 photovoltaic systems.

10 companies have complied with Fomilenio requirements; most are of Salvadoran capital, one is Guatemalan and the other is from the U.S.

"Even though 80 companies were initially interested in the project, only 10 complied with the requirements.
