El Salvador Imports More Glass

In the first quarter of 2018, companies in the country imported $12 million worth of glass and its manufactures, 36% more than in the same period in 2017.

Variation of imports  
Between the first quarter of 2017 and the same period in 2018, the import value of glass and its manufactures in El Salvador grew from $9.1 million to $12.3 million. 

Between the periods in question, the value imported into Costa Rica grew by 155%, going from $1.1 million to $2.9 million.

Origin of imports 
From January to March 2018, 23% of the value imported into El Salvador came from Costa Rica, 17% from Guatemala, 16% from China and 13% from the USA.

During the first quarter of the last seven years, Costa Rica was the origin market for imports that grew the most, as in 2012 it represented 9% of total purchases and in 2018 this proportion rose to 23%.

During the first half of the year, imports of glass and glass products in Central America reached $155 million, an increase of 3% compared to the same period in 2017.
