El Salvador: Exports Up 4% in July 2018

The manufacturing industry, including maquilas, accounted for 96% of total exports, and closed with an annual growth rate of almost 4%, equivalent to $130 million.

From a statement issued by the Central Reserve Bank:

Exports of goods from El Salvador amounted to US $3.5596 billion between January and July 2018, higher by US $124.5 million compared to the same period in 2017, the Central Reserve Bank reported.

The manufacturing industry, including maquilas, represented 96.2% of total exports, that is, US $3.4234 billion and closed with an annual growth rate of 3.9%, equivalent to US $129.6 million. The five main branches that contributed to this performance were: Clothing, Production of Food Products, Manufacture of Textile Products, Manufacture of Rubber and Plastic Products, and Paper and Products Manufacturing, which together added up to US $2.6798 million worth of sales abroad and make up 78.3% of the sector.

Salvadoran Exports Grow 4% Up to August 2018

During the first eight months of the year, foreign sales reached $4.054 billion, almost 4% more than the same period in 2017.

From the press release of the Central Reserve Bank:

The exported merchandise from El Salvador up to August 2018 reached US$4,053.8 million, US$139.9 million more than the same period in 2017, with an inter-annual growth rate of 3.6%, reported the Central Reserve Bank.

Between January and May of 2018 exports totaled $2.516 billion, 5% more than in the same period in 2017, and again sales in the manufacturing industry accounted for most of the increase.

The Central Reserve Bank reported that "... The maquila industry ended the period with exports that reached US $518.6 million, higher by US $71.8 million compared to the same period in 2017, with a year-on-year growth of 16.1%."

El Salvador: Exports Up 3% in March 2018

May 2018

In the third month of the year, exports of goods grew by 3% with respect to the same period in 2017, and the increase was mainly due to sales of the maquila and agricultural sectors.

From a report by the Central Bank of Honduras:

At the end of the first quarter of 2018, Salvadoran exports of goods amounted to US $1.4825 billion, higher by US $44.9 million than in the same period in 2017, which meant a year-on-year growth of 3.1%, the Central Reserve Bank reported.

Canada FTA will Boost Maquila Industry in Honduras

The annual export growth of the maquiladora industry in Honduras is estimated at $200 million, with the entry into force of the trade agreement with Canada.

Laprensa.hn reports that "About 200 million dollars in export growth and the creation of up to 10,000 new jobs is projected for the Honduran maquila industry in 2013 with the entry into force of the FTA with Canada, assured representatives from the sector.
