El Salvador: Agreement on Construction Wage Increase

Builders and unions have agreed to a wage increase of 3% for 2012 and a further 3% in 2013.

The agreement was reached after four months of negotiations between representatives of the Salvadoran Chamber of Construction Industry (CASALCO), the Trade Union of Construction Workers (SUTC) and the Salvadoran Union of Construction Workers and Allies (SITRACOCS) .

"... Until December 31, 2011, the daily wage of a skilled worker will be $10.79 for each working day. In 2012 it will be $11.11 and in 2013 it will rise to $11.44, therefore in 2012 a skilled worker will earn $333 per month and in 2015 they will receive $343. The current salary is $323 per month.

For assistants, the daily wage this year remains at $8.79. In 2012 it will be set at $9.05 and in 2013 it will be $9.32." reported Laprensagrafica.com

Employers and the union have signed a collective agreement for 2014-2017 establishing a tiered wage increase starting with 27 cents in the first year.

Workers in Costa Rica's private sector are about to get a 6.58 percent raise.

Persons in this sector and those who have a "semi-qualified" employment will receive this amount plus a 4,000-colon monthly subsidy of 4,000 colons (about 7.69 dollars).
Those who do not have specific qualifications will get the same salary increase and a 5,000-colon subsidy (about 9.61 dollars).
