El Salvador: $5000 Per Quintal of Coffee in Online Auction

The Japanese company UCC Ueshima Coffee Co. paid $5010 per quintal to the San Nicolas farm during the last stage of the Cup of Excellence competition in El Salvador.

"The grain produced in the San Nicholas A farm was the first place winner this year and yesterday it managed to sell to UCC 1800 pounds at a price of $90.180. The average cost of a pound exceeded more than 40 times what it would be on the stock exchange ", reported Elmundo.com.sv.

With this sale, El Salvador breaks his own record for the highest price per quintal of coffee and almost doubles it. In last year's edition, the maximum price per quintal was $2650, property of the farm Las Brumas.

Statistics from the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) reveal that this year 59,254 pounds of coffee was auctioned for a total of $604,000.

Second place in the contest was awarded to the farm Tablón El Copo de Juayúa in Sonsonate, which sold 1575 pounds of coffee of the Bourbon variety for a price of $39,000, while third place was won by the farm Suiza, which sold 2,200 pounds at a cost of $37,620.
