A press release from the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador reads:

The director of the Hospital Redevelopment Project and Extension of Health Services (RHESSA) Carrmen Moran Reyes, was satisfied by the profile of the companies interested in the work. She expects to study the respective proposals in October and the construction works to be awarded in November.
"We hope that all companies will pass on the technical side so that we have more competition in the financing section," said the official.

The Public Health department and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (BCIE), who provided funds for the hospital, will be working together in order to reduce administrative time and expedite the awarding of the work.

The competing firms are Simán S.A. from CV, Inversiones Omni, S.A. from CV, the Spanish firm Abantia Instalaciones S.A. and the Italian company Astaldi S.p.a, El Salvador Branch.

The maternity hospital was damaged by the earthquakes in January and February 2001. Since then, 30 per cent of the infrastructure has been unusable, which has meant saturation of patients in various services.
