El Salvador: $35 million in Solar Energy Announced

Having already signed a contract to supply power to an electricity distributor, an announcement has been made of the construction of a 10MW photovoltaic generator.

Elsalvador.com reports that "U.S. firms Perfect Energy and Solar Horizon, along with a Salvadoran investor have joined their capital and announced the creation of the company SolEnergy Farms, which plans to begin construction of a photovoltaic plant in January 2014, according Marwan Zakhem said its president. Consequently, the company has already signed a contract with the distributor DelSur to sell the first 10 megawatts (MW) of generation of this plant, which is to be located in the municipality of Tecoluco , department of San Vicente."

" ... The estimated investment in the first phase is $35 million. But long term they expect to invest $150 million , as the organization is interested in participating in the bidding for 60 of the 100 MW tender for renewable energy announced by the Superintendent Electricity and Telecommunications (Siget) several weeks ago. "
