El Salvador: 32 Companies Bid for 100 MW

30 offers were presented for photovoltaic projects with capacity for 60 MW and two for wind power projects with capacity of 40 MW.

Friday, May 16, 2014

An article on Nacion.com reports that "... Of the 32 projects submitted by investors, two are wind projects, the remaining 30 are photovoltaic; however, Roberto González, DELSUR's manager, said that if the wind projects fail to meet the power target they have been assigned (40 MW) they will be supplemented with photovoltaic generation. "

It is estimated that the selected projects will stimulate an investment of approximately $200 million. The tender is being organized by the government and the electricity distributor DELSUR and includes the participation of national and international investors from Spain, Mexico and France. The companies who are to receive the award will be revealed on June 24, after "... a process of technical and financial evaluation of all the bidders."

"'With these bidding processes the aim is to diversify the energy matrix and stabilize energy prices,' said Roberto Gonzalez, Manager of DELSUR."

"Added to this competition are two others which have already been completed, a 355 MW tender awarded to Pacific Energy and another tender of 15 MW with small-scale projects. Between the three tenders it is expected that more than $1 billion will be generated in investment. "
