El Salvador-Trinidad and Tobago Trade Agreement

In the second round of negotiations an agreement was signed on tourism and advances made in relation to investment protection.

In the second round of negotiations for a Partial Agreement (PA) between El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago, which was held in Puerto España, both delegations reached an agreement on tourism and advances were made in relation to investments.

From a press release issued by the Ministry of Economy of El Salvador (Minec):

During 20th to 23th January, the Second Round of Trade Negotiations for a Partial Agreement (PA) between El Salvador and Trinidad and Tobago was held in Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago which included the Agreement for the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection Holding (BIT) and the Agreement on Cooperation in Tourism and as well as a trade and business missions.

In negotiation for the Partial Agreement which included the participation of the Deputy Minister of Economy, Mario Roger Hernández and the Director of Trade Policy, Carlos Moreno, significant progress was made in the regulatory text, the chapters on Market Access Rules of Origin, Trade Protection, Dispute Resolution, Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures, Technical Barriers to Trade and Institutional Arrangements, in most the only remaining unresolved issues will be dealt with via electronic exchanges in the next few days. Additionally, the Agreement on Tourism Cooperation was concluded, and most of the text of the Agreement on the Promotion and Reciprocal Protection of Investments was agreed.

This week Authorities from both countries will begin a second round of negotiations for a partial scope trade agreement.

This week El Salvador and Trinidad & Tobago will hold a second round of negotiations for a Partial Scope Agreement. The main products exported by Salvadorans to this country are articles made of plastic, sugar, agricultural products, industrial products, clothing, iron, steel, plastic, paper and cardboard.

Closure of Guatemala - Trinidad and Tobago Negotiations

At the end of the third round of negotiations, on Friday 17 August, the negotiation process is expected to end.

Prensalibre.com cites a press release from the Ministry of Economy of Guatemala which notes that the conclusion is scheduled for Friday with issues being discussed such as market access, rules of origin and origin verification procedures.
