El Machetazo Invests $ 15 Million in Panama

The supermarket chain announced investments in new outlets and the incursion into a new business, pharmacies.

Regarding pharmacies, plans include opening of three branches, one of which will be located at the Brisas del Golf residential area and another one in Plaza Versailles.

Expansion plans include the opening of a new supermarket in Coronado.

"The investment portfolio of El Machetazo will add a restaurant franchise, after reaching an agreement with Pollo Tropical, based in Miami, to open locations in Brisas del Golf, Albrook Mall and Plaza Versailles," states the article in Prensa.com.

Franchises Expanding in Panama

Franchise operations in the country are planning new openings for this year, 2012, driven by economic growth.

Such is the case of Wing Zone Panama which has three restaurants in the country, and plans this year to open five new branches, said Adalberto Ferrer managing partner of the chain.

Garzon supermarkets open in Panama

Venezuelan franchise Garzon invested $1.6 million in a store that is 200,000 m2 and that will generate 150 jobs.

The supermarket, which will compete with big chains such as El Rey, El Machetazo, Xtra, Riba Smith and 99, will be fully (100%) staffed by Panamanians.

The franchise was brought to Panama by businessman Javier Espinosa, current president of Garzon companies in the country, who indicated that they planning to make use of the license to open new branches in Central America.

Panamanian retailer, El Machetazo, is scheduled to open four supermarkets at an investment of $40 million in the next four months.

The El Machetazo Group — which also includes the Casa Goly Hardware stores and the Govil uniform producer — has been growing so far this year in the double digits in sync with the economic reality.
