Lots that receive more than 80 points in the tasting by international experts can later participate in the electronic auction.

Byron Dardón wrote in the Prensa Libre website: "The event is organized and administered by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE), and it is carried out by the National Coffee Association (ANACAFE). It will end on July 8, when the international Internet auction will take place."

Until May 7, 28 international judges will be selecting the best coffee which will then be offered up to electronic auction.

Judges accredited by the Alliance for Coffee Excellence (ACE) from at least 11countries, will select the best from among the 60 participating samples, each provided from similarly sized coffee farms.

Coffee Auction Ready to Start in Nicaragua

The electronic auction is set to begin tomorrow for the 26 best lots of coffee at the Cup of Excellence 2009 event.

The vice-president of the Nicaraguan Association of Special Coffees (ACEN, acronym in Spanish), Julio Peralta, said that the base price for this year is $2.50 per pound, or $250 for 100 pounds.

Sixth Cup of Excellence in Honduras

The 37 lot auction is scheduled for tomorrow, with 700 bags of 150 pounds being offered at an initial price of $2.50 per pound.

Rony Gámez, head of the quality control lab at the Honduran Institute of Coffee (Ihcafé acronym in Spanish), said they are expecting to beat the price per pound they received during 2008.
