The monthly report by the Foundation for the Development of Guatemala has been released showing the main indicators of the national economy.

Inflation trending down
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) had an annual variation of 4.13% in April 2013, down by 0.14 percentage points compared to April last year (4.27%), while the monthly variation was 0.17%, 0.20 points less than in the same month of 2012 when it was 0.27%. Annual inflation is within the target range set by the Monetary Board in 2013, established at between 3% and 5%.

Oil prices stable
Prices in the domestic market are determined in part by international oil prices. The international price of oil in the month of April 2013 averaged $92.07 per barrel, lower by 0.96% than in March, and lower by 11% compared to April 2012 (interannual variation), as shown in the Graph 2. Throughout the month of May, the price at the start of the month was $91.14, rising to $96.71 on May 8, reaching $96.05.

The price trend over the past year has been erratic, fluctuating between $78 and $99 per barrel, between May 23 2012 and May 22, 2013.
